First and foremost we would like to thank all of the bowlers that participated and supported our tournament; all of your assistance was greatly appreciated. Much thanks to Gina Moura who let us take her idea and run with it.
CONGRATULATIONS to Team Castro, Tracy Castro, Nolen Velasco, and Phil Campit shot a team total of 4054. Averaging 225.2 per game. Not too far behind them was the team of Jeannette Menacho, Lance Lopez and Rory Pederson with a total of 4026. Finishing a very close third was the team of Bonnie Garber, Chris Pitts, and Wayne Garber falling just 2 pins short with 4024 team total. Again congratulations to the top three and all other 5 teams that cashed.
From what we heard from the bowlers there was a condition on the lanes that tested you and if you played the right area you could score well and these people scored. Honor scores: Our first 300 was from Steven Ting shot in game 2 with an Ebonite The Big One. Just a game behind was Don Cole with his 300 in game three, but that was the epic of his first three games Don shot 247, 259, 300 for an 806 series. All shot with a Storm X-Factor II. Not to be out done Brian Ruffner shot his 300 in game 5 with a Hammer Doom that he hadnt thrown until that day. Great bowling gentlemen.
Individual efforts build a great team as well and for the singles portions of the tournament these bowlers took their hard work and it paid off for them.
Ladies first Jeanette Menacho took to the lanes with an impressive 1420 series averaging 236.6 to take the womens single title by almost 90 pins from Tracy Castro who shot a great 1331 series averaging 221.8 herself. Two great performances for the day.
On the mens side of the fence three great individual efforts. Jeff Frankos shot 1506, Wayne Garber rolled a 1504, and Steven Ting shot 1495, to take the top three spots for the mens individual event. Now Jeffs last game was 246, Wayne ended his day with 238, Steven shot 225. Lets do the math here the difference between first and third was 11 pins, and the difference between the last game was 21 pins, that means the title was decided in the 11th and 12th frame of game 6. This was an exciting battle to watch. By the way the averages of 251, 250.6, and 249.1 for 6 games is an awesome feat across and entire house during a tournament that has 594 games bowled on the lanes.
Again thank you all for those who participated in our most successful tournament to date. We paid over $17,800 in prize money, ran over 210 brackets, had 86 out of the 99 bowlers compete in singles action. In our opinion; a great testament to Northern, Bay Area, South Bay, and Central California bowling. We had bowlers from Sacramento to Fresno and even Las Vegas compete in this event and are looking forward to the next one to increase participation.
